Apple Cider Cranberry Sauce

Comments : 7 Posted in : Thanksgiving on by : Tami Tags: , , , ,

This is the perfect cranberry sauce for the holidays.  The cranberries are tart enough, so best not to use a Granny Smith apple.  This makes for a great holiday gift in a jelly jar or added to a gift basket for those “obligatory” what do I get someone gift.

2-12 ounce bag fresh cranberries

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup pure maple syrup

1 small sweet apple

3/4  cup apple cider (you may want more if it’s too thick)

1 cinnamon stick

  • Place all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10-15 minutes, until the sauce has thickened and the apples are tender. Taste it, if you’d like it sweeter add  maple syrup and simmer a bit longer.
  • Remove cinnamon stick and cool slightly, then refrigerate. Once chilled the sauce will thicken up.
